Seeing Singly

“Balance” and “focus” are two essential concepts as we allow a new spiritual awareness to unfold within us. We move daily through a world of apparent duality, with sensory input of good and evil, right and wrong, and a thousand gradations between the two extremes. The challenge is to keep our focus on God and to find in God the balance we need.

“The eye is the lamp of the body,” Jesus taught in his Sermon on the Mount. “If your eye is single, your whole body shall be filled with light.”

When we see singly, we see God expressing wherever we look. With a single eye we see the Presence and Power of God in every person, every event, every challenge of our day. God is as present in the shadows as in the light, in the sorrows as in the joys of our lives. With my focus on God, I can remain serene and balanced through every expression of chaos and confusion.

Today I choose to see with the single eye of my spiritual awareness. I see God in every object, every situation of the day, and I reflect the light of God back to others in this day’s every interaction. I see only God, I express only God and I celebrate the light in my life. Amen.
