“To those who have,” Jesus told his followers, “more will be given. And to those who have not, even what they have will be taken away.”
This may seem like a shocking statement, given what we think we know about Jesus’ message. In fact, this sounds a lot like the cynical saying that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. What kind of message is that for the have-nots of the world, to be told that their own meager existence is in jeopardy, while the rich and powerful will continue to grow stronger? Where’s the hope?
Well, in fact, there is precious little hope for people who expect God to do the work for them, while they continue to see – and judge – things as they always have.
What Jesus is defining in his teaching is the Law of Mind Action, the Law of Attraction, the Law of the Universe. It isn’t good or bad. It simply is. If we are ever going to accomplish a full expression of our own spiritual power, we need to understand how Spirit works – and especially how Spirit seeks to work through us.
It works as consciousness. ‘Having’ or ‘having not’ are not to be measured according to tangible things. If we look at our lives today and believe that we see lack, the universe will respond to that belief, and we will create more lack. If instead we look on today and appreciate all the gifts, the abundance that is present on even our darkest days, then our appreciation will attract more good to our lives. It’s all Good, of course. How we express the Good we are is entirely up to us.
Today, I appreciate the Good always expressing in my life, and I know that appreciation brings wonderful new expressions.
