Well, it’s that time of year here in New England. TV newscasts breathlessly report on where and when the colors will be at their peak. A simple drive to drop off shirts becomes a dizzying experience. It happens every year, of course. And yet it seems brand new and totally amazing each time I find myself surrounded by trees radiating an absolute riot of color into a clear blue sky.
My work with Byron Katie this summer reaffirmed that we live in a friendly universe. This spectacular fall foliage tells me something more: We live in a flamboyant universe! It’s totally outrageous! I mean, Liberace, Cher and Elton John combined could not come up with anything this spectacular.
I’m no scientist, but I’m pretty sure that in spiritual Truth it doesn’t have to be this way. Leaves could die and fall with little fanfare at all. But not in our flamboyant universe! Jesus assured his followers that “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” There are dark and challenging shadows almost everywhere we look today—war, poverty, injustice, abuse. They all need our most heart-centered creative energy to dissolve them into the warmth of a friendly universe. But here in Connecticut, here in October, it’s easier somehow to feel just a hint of how that kingdom might look and feel, and to allow at least a bit of its flamboyance to leak into our lives today.
Today I AM expressing a creative power more spectacular than my ego mind can even begin to comprehend. I embrace it, I appreciate it, and I share it with everyone I meet.
