In Unity we refer often to the indwelling Christ, the Presence of God as every person. We recognize the Christ in others by allowing the power of love to flow from us to others, and we affirm that as we more fully express this Christ energy, we will move nearer to the kingdom of heaven.
This understanding of the Christ is an integral part of our spiritual awareness, but it is startling to anyone raised in a more fundamentalist belief system. To them, the Christ is a reference to Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, and the only human who was also divine. Where, they ask, can you find any support for your Christology on scripture?
In fact, the understanding of God as the Lord of our individual being permeates both Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Perhaps most explicitly, the Apostle Paul refers not only to the belief, but also to its long-standing presence in consciousness. In his letter to the church in Colossus, Paul describes his ministry as being “to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now made manifest… Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col. 1: 26-27).
Today I affirm the hope, surrender to the potential, celebrate the Presence of Christ as myself and as all I meet. Thank You, God for the great mystery, the amazing truth of who we are in Truth. Today I AM the Presence and Power of God in expression.
