Over the past fifteen years – through Unity centers in Beaverton OR, Chicago, and Dallas – Ed Townley has become a clear and passionate voice for universal spiritual principles that guide us in love on our path to empowerment. With enthusiasm and humor he teaches that the human experience is not to be dismissed or resisted as an obstacle to our true spiritual reality. Rather, our entire spiritual purpose lies in embracing the choices and challenges of life as a great adventure. It is through these that we continue to grow in spiritual awareness and expression.

Spirit Expressing uses many approaches to celebrate the creativity of Truth as it operates within the human condition. We utilize the universal archetypes of the Hero’s Journey with a view toward seeing how these principles shed light on our own personal quest for Truth. We deeply appreciate the Bible as a great and useful road map designed to guide the choices we make along our journey. Through these approaches and many others, we joyfully take part in our own process of self-discovery. When we are able to release the vestiges of old beliefs that have made us feel like victims in the past, we are then free to embrace the creative spiritual power waiting to express through our thoughts and feelings. Spirit Expressing Ministries offers you many opportunities to appreciate your life and purpose from a fresh and exciting spiritual perspective.

Rev. Ed Townley was licensed and ordained as a Unity minister in 1991. Since that time he has served as senior minister in Beaverton OR, Chicago IL and Dallas TX. He was for five years president of the Western Region of the Association of Unity Churches, and served six years on the Association’s Licensing & Ordination Committee.

Rev. Ed is the author of The Secret According to Jesus, a metaphysical discussion of the Sermon on the Mount, and of numerous spiritually-themed scripts which have been produced throughout the world. He is noted for his passion for the Bible and for the creative process as described in the construct of the Hero’s Journey. He is the host of Bible Alive!, a weekly discussion program broadcast over unity.fm.

In 1992 Rev. Ed founded Spirit Expressing, a ‘non-church’ ministry dedicated to the creative process, and to exploring and communicating spiritual truths through the arts – and particularly through the power of story. Since that time Spirit Expressing has been a central part of each of his ministries, developing and presenting new scripts and new productions of existing scripts, as well as exploring the spiritual powers inherent in music, theatre, dance and the visual arts. Spirit Expressing productions have included “Miss Witherspoon” by Christopher Durang, “Spoon River Anthology” by Edgar Lee Masters, “A Man for All Seasons” by Robert Bolt, as well as the original Christmas musical “If Children Remember,” adapted by Ed Townley from a story by L. Frank Baum with music by Ed Tossing.
