I've read and used this book over and over again since it was first published in 1996. Dr. Myss is an acclaimed medical intuitive, and in this book she is concerned, first and foremost, with the possibilities for healing implicit in an understanding of the spiritual dimensions of energy medicine. In a larger sense, her synthesis of seven stages of spiritual growth as they express in Hindu chakras, Christian sacraments and the Jewish kabbalistic Tree of Life is important and helpful information for anyone willing to move more consciously through life. In our current Spirit Expressing focus on the biblical Revelation to John, I extend Dr. Myss's synthesis to the many expressions of ‘seven' - letters, seals, angels, trumpets, etc. - that express in that controversial book

Barbara Marx Hubbard is one of the true visionaries in our world today. A co-founder of the Association for Global New Thought, she is a futurist and way-shower at the frontier of social and spiritual change. The Revelation is one of her most personal and accessible works. Where others read the Revelation to John as a warning of doom, gloom and destruction, she finds in its words and images a vivid description of the birth pains of a new consciousness. She offers personal stories and meditative passages to help us cooperate with this great work, instead of complicating its expression through resistance and ignorance. She is a major inspiration for my own work with Revelation, including the Spirit Expressing series, "Nobody Left Behind."

A professor of New Testament studies at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Barbara Rossing holds a doctorate from Harvard University Divinity School and a Masters of Divinity degree from Yale University Divinity School. The Rapture Exposed was first published in 2004 as a reaction against the popular Left Behind series of novels. Coming from a very traditional Christian viewpoint, she makes it clear that "The Rapture" and all its related ideas of God choosing to save a select few and destroy everyone else are non-biblical and, in terms of the message and ministry of Jesus Christ, nonsensical. She is alarmed at the damage done to our collective consciousness by these angry, judgmental fundamentalist beliefs, with their dismissive, who-cares attitude toward the quality of life on this planet. This would be an excellent book for friends or relatives who still believe in the Rapture. They might not agree with it, but it is presented and expressed in terms they would understand

Andrew Harvey is a profoundly important mystical voice, and an electrifying teacher. His books - more than 30 so far! - are passionate guides to many different spiritual paths, including Sufism (The Way of Passion: A Celebration of Rumi), Hinduism (Journey to Ladakh) and the energy of the goddess (The Return of the Mother). His own spiritual path has brought him, through many experiences, back to an understanding of Jesus Christ as the ultimate avatar for all spiritual seekers, challenging us to find within ourselves the same dimension of creative divinity he taught and demonstrated in his life. This is a basic book for understanding Jesus - and for understanding the Christ in us.

This is, of course, a classic text by a sixteenth-century Spanish mystic. It is also sadly misunderstood - especially by people who have never read it but like the sound of the title. It sees the "Dark Night" not as a challenge to be overcome, or a negative experience to be avoided, but as an essential - even joyful - dimension of the spiritual process that brings us into human form. In this lovely new translation its wisdom is very accessible. As Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul, writes in his foreword to this edition, "I think we're all called to be mystics and that the ladder of emotions John describes may be part of anyone's life. ...Further, I think that much of our depression, anxiety and addiction has to do with what John writes about: the soul's need and longing for transcendence."
